Greetings!
As promised, I'm getting back in touch with you to let you know what I am going to be doing. I have enjoyed a much needed rest and have had an opportunity to get resettled into a new, much smaller office. I will be sharing that space with two independent practitioners, Nicola Williams, who does massage and neurobiofeedback, and Karen Landis, who is a certified hypnotherapist.
For most of my adult life, I've been fascinated and intrigued by human beings and their health--- physically, mentally and spiritually. I now have the opportunity to do what I do best and enjoy most---listening to peoples' stories and empowering them through evaluation and teaching to optimize their quest for health and well being. I also will to be able to study all aspects of health in greater depth and to use that knowledge in this pursuit. I must say that I find the whole process complex, perplexing at times and awesome! There is a barrage of new information and knowledge, often times contradictory, raising more questions than answers. For me, it seems that the more I learn, the less I know for sure!
One area in which I've been particularly interested is functional medicine, which is covered in more detail elsewhere on this site. In short, it is an approach that looks beyond the "what " is wrong to the "why" does this particular individual have this specific health issue. I believe that by attempting to answer that question and directing attention to the root cause of the problem, rather than the resultant symptoms, we can achieve a higher degree of healing. In this pursuit, I have worked for the past several years doing all the necessary course work to become certified in functional medicine and plan to take the final exam this year.
Another interest of mine has been mind-body medicine. The relationship between our minds and our health is becoming much better understood. This understanding provides us with rich opportunities to improve our well being and function by tending to our thoughts and our minds. There are several techniques for addressing this aspect of health that I have found to be quite helpful.
I will also be continuing my acupuncture practice and studying that in more depth as well. Acupuncture integrates very nicely with functional medicine and mind-body techniques and I have found it to be quite beneficial for many individuals.
Health is not simply the absence of disease, but the presence of a positive vitality. That requires an understanding of one's own issues and a willingness to take action. I want to help facilitate that process and offer knowledge and wisdom to help you along the way.
It is my intention to see patients two or three days a week, usually for one hour appointments. This will allow me the time to adequately evaluate their particular issues and to provide guidance, advice, education and recommendations. Please review the rest of this website for more detailed information.
I also intend to periodically post articles, musings and ideas on this site, present occasional talks and seminars and to be available to speak to groups on health related issues. The first of these will be a workshop on Coping with Stress. It will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 11AM at Woodstock Rehab and Fitness with a repeat second session at 7 PM. For more information click here.
In addition, I will be developing a resource page with useful websites, books and other references along with reviews on some of these topics. Lastly, there is a store option on this site that will make selected top quality products available at a discount.
If you would like to take advantage of any of these opportunities or be notified of any forth coming activities, please provide your contact information and I will keep you posted on any new offerings.
Thank you
